Opposite is the Wolseley Centre, which has free admission and offers walks through wetlands alongside the River Trent and through ancient ruins or the opportunity to relax by the lakeside.

Alternatively you can walk across the bridge over the River Trent to the Trent & Mersey canal and stroll along miles of footpath through tranquil countryside in the heart of Staffordshire, with Cannock Chase in the background. For those interested in local history the canal lock at Colwich was the scene of a notorious murder in 1839 which inspired ‘The Wench is Dead’, one of Colin Dexter’s Chief Inspector Morse novels.
