Pilates
Our normal daily lives generally involve limited movement of some, even most parts of our body. Sitting at a desk or behind the wheel of a car by day and watching TV in the evening, it’s not surprising that much of the body’s flexibility, control and strength can be lost in those parts of the musculature, bones and joints that aren’t being used.
The aim of Pilates is to regain the natural movement of our youth,
re -educating our brains to use good postural movements automatically. We have to remind our brains how to achieve good movement by using groups of muscles in the correct pattern.
Many of our simple daily activities involve not just our arms or legs, but actually should start with the deep postural muscles which support the spine. If this does not occur then other muscles would end up trying to stabilise the movement. The inevitable result will be to learn a pattern of misuse and problems later.
Pilates aims to make sure that muscles behave normally and thus work together properly, moving joints correctly.
