Therapeutic laser, sometimes called cold laser, uses pure light to speed cell repair. It is effective in reducing pain and swelling. Different wavelengths can be used to treat skin conditions, muscle and tendinopathy, and bone healing.

Laser can be effectively used on chinese acupuncture points for those who do not like needles. By the use of such points, including the ear, laser has been shown to be one of the most effective treatments for smoking cessation.
